"In every deliberation,
we must consider the impact
on the seventh generation."
~
Great Law of Peace
of the Haudenosaunee
(Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy)
~
Imagine knowing that someone 7 generations ago deliberately made decisions that considered our welfare. Imagine knowing someone 7 generations from now:
What would s/he ask of us?
What would we ask of us?
~
Seven generations seems like a long time in a very now oriented society. But in human time and geologic time, it is not. I have a friend, a matriarch in North Dakota, who knew her Great Grandmother and who now wraps her loving arms around her Great Grandchildren. Across the wings of her time, she knows seven generations.
