Think about Where Your Resources Come From

When you turn on that ignition, flip that switch, set that thermostat lower or higher than it should go, I would have one simple request:  Think about where your resources come from.  I'm not the only one.  A whole Raft of People carefully screened from public view, a whole Ark of Creatures who cannot speak our Human Tongue, those Little Ones who come after us with hopes and dreams to fulfill, and the Earth herself make that request of us too.  We can do better.   We must do better.  And we must do it now.

Sharing from the IEN Meeting

On Wednesday, August 10, 5:30pm, Ilse Christen and I will share gleanings from the Indigenous Environmental Network "Protecting Mother Earth Gathering" which we recently attended at Ft. Berthold. Our sharing will be here at the Farm.  Anyone interested is welcome.

Suddenly, It's Tomatoes

Suddenly, the Tomatoes are coming in.  Tomorrow, Richard begins canning.  We don't know how many we will have, but we will be grateful for every single one.

Cool Respite in the Middle of Intense Heat

July 23:

WeatherUnderground forecast that the Heat Advisory, which has been in effect for over a week, would go off at 7pm this evening. Of course, we expected that it would be gone just like turning off a light switch. That didn't happen immediately.

We 3 C's took a walk about the Land in the early evening. As we were walking, Clouds were beginning to boil up on the northern horizon. Towards the end of our walk as we headed into the Woods, the gentle Wind came up and the cool air descended like a long lost Friend.

We were in hopes that the weather shift would bring Rain. No, it hasn't yet. We shall surely be grateful when it does. For now, we are deeply grateful for the Cool.

Home Again

I arrived home to the Farm this evening.  It feels so good to be back home after being gone 9 days, attending a most amazing conference (the Indigenous Environmental Network Protecting Mother Earth Gathering at Ft. Berthold Reservation), returning to the Great Northern Plains, seeing Friends, meeting new Treasures, traveling through the Black Hills and the Badlands, camping, just being. 

I had an extraordinary time.  More later.  I am headed to bed.

On the Way Home

My friend Ilse and I attended the 16th Mother Earth Gathering of the Indigenous Environmental Network at Ft. Berthold, the home of the 3 Affiliated Tribes (the Mandan, Arikara, and Hidatsa) in western North Dakota.

The conference was phenomenal.  Many tribes from Central and North American were represented.  I will be sharing more of this over time.

For now, we are making our way slowly back home to our Farms.  We are staying with Ilse's daughter Sylvia in the Black Hills.  Our intention is to slowly re-enter our spaces, allowing us time to process some deep learnings of the last few days.
