Nature Notes

When we lived in North Dakota, I did not feel that it was Spring until the Dark Eyed Juncos had left. Those little gray birds were trusted Winter Companions in North Dakota. We even have them here in our new home in Northeast Missouri.

As much as I want to declare it Spring here, I note the Juncos are still here in good number. They seem to be ganging up. Does that mean that they are anticipating travel soon? I wonder what day they will choose to leave.

Today, the air does have a winter feel to it. If this is a normal year, the last frost date is April 25th.
