Embarking

I continue to ponder the experiences of my Immigrant Ancestors to this North American Continent. I wonder: To what degree am I held by their unresolved Scripts? What finishing do I need to do to heal their Pain and My Own? How may I come fully into speaking my own true Script which I came here to say? How may I sing the Songs and dance the Dances of my Heart that My Creator intended?

When my Immigrant Ancestors left the European Soil of their Homeland, they were forced out due to Oppression, War, Famine. They brought their Dreams for a New Start here, yet were tangled in Old Scripts. Further complications arose upon their Arrival, not the least of which was the systematic eradication of their Cultural Identity. At an elemental level, they came to know that who they were was not OK. Such an orientation promoted a Seeking to Become Someone Else, which underpins our recycled and tattered Scripts to this day.

Tragically, many were forced into low paying and highly dangerous Jobs that no one else wanted. As aliens, they were disposable. No one cared. Money and the show of it became a Hamlet of Safety and the Slippery Essence of Power.

Those Immigrants were largely Young Adults who had not been tested nor did they have considerable Knowledge, Experience, and Wisdom that should come with living across the length of a Life's Path. What damage was wrought by the lack of the presence in their Lives of Humans across Life's Seasons? They had no maturing Adults or Elders to support them or guide them in embarking on an adventure which became ever focused upon the "New".

These experiences did not occur in isolation. Waves of Immigrants with similar Stories set their Feet upon the shores of this Continent for over 500 years. Our emerging Culture which professes its "Rightness" and "Success" to all Peoples of the World has largely been settled by Youth. Consequently, we have created a Culture which focuses on Youth. We have created a Culture which seems obsessed with the New. That "New" seems intent upon consuming everything its Path.

Our People do not know what the Cycles and Seasons of a Human Life are, nor do we know how to live them. With its exclusive focus upon Youth, all roles and relationships become distorted. What does it mean to be an Adult in the Middle Years? What does it mean to be Elder? How do all Children, Young Adults, Adults in Mid Life, and Elders relate to each other in ways that we intended? Surely, the definition of an Elder is not "one who is physically frail", "one who is silent or demented", "one who is not young", "one who is disposable too".

Perhaps all these matters are part of our Tests in these Times. We are in a very large Birth Canal becoming who we have been intended. We too are embarking. Some say these Times are a growing up time for Humans. I would agree.
