WeatherUnderground Forecasts show that Highs and Lows over the coming days are projected as follows: Wednesday (38 degrees,22 degrees), Thursday (31,20), Friday (29,18), and Saturday (36,23). Brrrrr! That means most of the remaining Veggies need to be harvested and the Garden needs to be put to bed.
We knew this was comin'. We just had no idea it would be this late. We 3 C's are ready because it has been a long season. So as you might conclude it was pretty busy around here today.
Melanie harvested Greens. We washed them and bagged them up. We will be giving some away to the Milk Group tomorrow. We have way more than we can eat. Folks have been sharing with us. It is a good feeling to share one's abundance with others. In the meantime, we took some time to admire the Beauty of these Greens. The above is Swiss Chard. Dinosaur or Lacinato Kale is below. That's the underside of the Leaf.
How did Nature figure these things out? And they have been growing right under our noses. We planted the Seeds and the Master Magician did the work. The more I watch these things, the smaller I see that we Humans are in the order of things.Other Veggies which were harvested included: Mustard Greens, Tat Soi, Broccoli, Turnips, Rutabaga, Lettuces, Celeriac, Parsnips, Salsify. We don't exactly know what Salsify is but we have some. In the coming days, we will be doing some research into figuring out what to cook (leaves or root?) and how to cook it. We always have Adventures going on around here.
Richard built up Garden Beds with Compost from Rolf. Those Garden Beds will be ready to go in the Spring. They look really happy. We are too. It is really exciting to see how the Soil has improved in our 1st 3 Gardening Seasons. In the meantime, we found time to commune with the Critters too. They liked that as much as we did.Back in the Chicken House, the Hennies were doing their thing. They gave us 11 Eggs today, which is a slight increase. Some are still molting. Richard says Egg Production may go down tomorrow as the Chickens put more of their Energy into maintaining Body Heat. That surely sounds like a good idea.
