O.K. I just simply cannot believe it. None of us could. For this Lunch, we sat staring at our Plates. We had Salads with most things gathered just in the last day or 2 from our Farm: Baby Lettuces, grated Yellow Carrots, grated Turnips, the last of the Chicken leftovers from Thanksgiving (the Chicken was ours), Eggs from the Hennies, Sun Dried Tomatoes.
We had 2 choices in Breads: the one Remaining Bagel and the one remaining slice of Seedy Sour Dough Bread. While Melanie had made 2 Breads, the ingredients (with Butter and Cream Cheese) were off-Farm. Melanie took the slice of Bread and that last Bagel was divided 2 ways between Richard and me. I just love eating in a way which means all things are precious. Because they are.
Somewhere in the recent past, we had deeply hoped to eat mostly Food we had raised. In some ways, I don't think we had a clue about how we would do that or when that would happen. It sounded good and it sounded needed in our times. Well, the Salad just looked up at us. It's a happening.
Plus, it is December 1. We had no idea that we could still gather Fresh Produce by early December. Granted, Winter is soon to make an appearance. I had heard of a Fall Garden in my Master Gardener Class last year. After 32 years in North Dakota, a Fall Garden sounded odd and strange. But we did it. That luscious Salad was proof.
Some People have to go to "Theme Parks" and pay big bucks to get "Oh, Wow" experiences. We just stay right here on the Farm.
